2022-23 Sidney Crosby Game worn jersey (set 1)
Sidney Crosby was drafted first overall by the Penguins in the 2005 NHL entry draft. Long dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby entered the league at eighteen years old and made his presence known with a stunning 102 points in 81 games. His penchant for shining in clutch moments grew, culminating with a near miss in the 2008 Stanley Cup finals, and then ultimate victory in 2009. By 2010 he’d won every major award aside from the Conn Smyth, only to win it back to back times in 2016 and 2017, as the Penguins added their fourth and fifth Stanley Cups. From his 2010 gold medal winning overtime goal for Team Canada to breaking the record for most face-off wins in 2024, Crosby has time and time again proven himself as one of the most consistent talents to ever play the game, and is commonly recognized as the greatest player of his era.
2022-23 was a special year for Sid in terms of milestones: Through mid-December he had 38 points in 28 games, which comes out to 1.35 points per game; crazy stuff at age 35. He would go on to pass Gilmour, Oates, Trottier, Selanne, and Mikita in all time points, and end the season at #15 on the list (as of 2025, he is 9th all time). He surpassed Wayne Gretzky as the only player to have more than a point per game for 19 straight seasons, and picked up his 900th assist, the 10th fastest player to do so. In April of ‘23 he notched his 1500th career point, only the 15th player to ever do it (6th fastest). In the fall of 2024, he became the fifth fastest player to record 1600 points.
This jersey was worn for twenty-one games including pre-season, and even a home game. Given Crosby’s injury history, it’s quite rare to find one of his jerseys with so much usage. Crosby scored twelve goals and racked up sixteen assists in this span, including three three-point games, and two two-goal games. A fun fact, he passed Brian Trottier, one of my childhood heroes, on the all time points list while wearing this jersey. He also averaged 1.4 points per game, something he’d only done twice since the 2013-14 season. At the halfway point of the season, he ranked 16th in points, with no one in his age bracket remotely close.
This jersey features Crosby’s custom alterations, is littered with six repairs (a large one on the front and five on the left sleeve), and plenty of board burns, popped threads, and pilling. Below are images of the jersey, photo matches, as well as a montage of several of his more spectacular goals while wearing this sweater.
