1998-99 Darius Kasparaitis game worn jersey (set 2)
On November 17th, 1996, Darius Kasparaitis was traded to the Penguins for Brian Smolinski, who had just come off a career year. Kasparaitis was hardly the point producer that Smolinski was, but his scrappiness and penchant for huge hits redefined the role of “agitator” in the NHL. Though never scoring more than four goals in any of his fourteen NHL seasons, he solidified his place in Penguins lore by scoring a game seven overtime goal against one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, to send the Penguins to the 2001 Eastern Conference finals.
This jersey was worn during the second half of the1998-99 season, and shows moderate wear, including several small holes, and several large board burns. In 15 games wearing this jersey, Kasparaitis picked up two assists and registered 14 penalty minutes. The jersey is matched to two photos from the ‘98-99 season, via a loose thread on a right arm 1, several marks and creases in the crest, oversewing into the yolk, and a mark on the left arm one, as indicated in the below photos.
