D2: The Mighty Ducks Kenny Wu Movie Worn Jersey
In the summer of1994, the newly crowned state champ Mighty Ducks were called upon to represent the United States in the Junior Goodwill Games, but not without some fresh talent being infused into their roster. One of the most notable additions was former figure skater Kenny Wu, whose graceful yet acrobatic style figured prominently into several of USA’s key victories. Following a highlight reel wrap-around goal against Trinidad and Tobago, Wu would shift the momentum of the final game of the tournament by pirouetting through the Iceland defense only to receive a pass and tap it into the open net. He then challenged the significantly larger goalie to a fight, pulling the goalie’s jersey over his head and laying haymakers until the ref pulled him away. Team USA would transform back into the Ducks for the third period, completing their comeback and becoming champions once more.
The jersey features decent wear including a large stick mark on the front that has been matched to several scenes. The HENDRIX patch has been removed I assume to be applied to alternate prop jerseys, but its outline is still evident. I watched this movie as a nine-year old with an unreasonable amount of awe and envy, and I couldn’t be happier to add this piece of hockey cinema history to my collection.
