2016-17 Nick Bonino game worn jersey (set 1)

Nick Bonino was drafted in the 6th round of the 2007 NHL entry draft by the San Jose Sharks, and was traded to the Anaheim Ducks before playing a game. After reaching his first twenty goal season in his fifth year, he was traded to Vancouver, where he didn’t quite recapture that firepower. He was subsequently traded to the Penguins in 2015-16 for the incredibly disappointing Brandon Sutter, and some other minor pieces. Little did the Penguins know this apparent downgrade in pedigree would amount to much more, as Bonino settled into a role centering Phil Kessel and Carl Hagelin, a line that would become known as the “HBK” line, making the Penguins incredibly difficult to contend with.

In game one of the 2015-16 finals, Bonino scored with only minutes remaining to catapult the Penguins to an early series lead. This goal was immortalized by the Punjabi broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada, as Harnarayan Singh’s call went viral and was celebrated by hockey fans around the world. These days it’s impossible to mention Bonino without someone reciting the famous goal call.

After Bonino won his first cup that season, he returned to the Penguins in 2016-17 to repeat that feat, but not before first wearing this jersey during the first half of the season. It shows several team repairs and stick marks, and is emblazoned with the ever so sharp 50th anniversary patch. It is matched to several photos and cards from that season.

During the 2016-17 playoffs, in game six of a second round match up with the Capitals, Bonino scored the series winning goal in overtime, further cementing his legacy as a clutch Penguins forward. After retiring in 2025, Bonino returned to the Penguins as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season.
