1993-94 Bryan Trottier game worn jersey (set 1)
Bryan Trottier is one of the most accomplished two-way centers in NHL history, best known for his pivotal role in two separate dynasties: the New York Islanders of the early 1980s and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the early 1990s. He was a centerpiece of the Islanders’ four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980 to 1983, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1980 as playoff MVP and earning a reputation as one of the league’s most complete forwards. Trottier holds the Islander’s record for most points, assists, games played, and assists in a single season. League wide, he is tied for the NHL record for points in one period with six, tied for the fastest goal to start a game (:05), and tied for the most power play goals in one game with four. He ranks 19th all time in total points and 13th all time in playoff points. His 18 game playoff point streak is still an NHL record, and his 27-game playoff point streak (across multiple seasons) is also an NHL record.
By 1990, the Islanders released Trottier as their roster transitioned to younger talent. He signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a veteran leader, adding grit and confidence to an a young and talented roster which would go on to capture back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992.
After briefly retiring following the 1992 championship, Trottier stepped into a front-office role with the Islanders. However, he returned to the Penguins for the 1993–94 season, serving both as a depth forward and assistant coach. In that final season, he played 41 games and scored 4 goals before retiring a second time. His career ended with over 1,100 NHL games and six Stanley Cup championships, later earning him induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
This jersey was worn in his final NHL season, and shows excellent wear in the form of stick marks, pilling, a split collar, and seven repairs! It is conclusively matched to unorthodox twill positioning of the A, as well as the wonky placement of the T's on the nameplate during a two goal game vs. the Flyers. Interestingly the 9's on the sleeves are a different font! It was worn for his final two game vs Philadelphia, as well as his final NHL goal vs Gretzky and the Kings on December 14th, 1993.
Trottier was one of my favorite players as a kid (he was one of my dad’s favorite players as well) so I’m thrilled to add such a sentimental jersey to my collection!

From the Pens 1993-94 Yearbook, this high res image of Trottier provides a clear look at the hand cut A, where you can see a thick yellow border at the top, a skinny one at the bottom, and a concave irregularity on the bottom left.
From the Pens 1993-94 highlights VHS, this close up of the A is an obvious match.
The same A, albeit at lower resolution, can be seen here.
A great shot of the mismatching 9's as Trottier has a chat with Markus Naslund on Dec 14th vs the Kings.
A large mark above the left 9 can barely be made out, also from Dec 14th
The same mark can barely be seen in this photo vs the Devils on Dec 2nd, as well as some loose threads on the back 9 which are also present on the jersey.
In this photo from a game vs the Senators, a diagonal mark near the crest can barely be made out.
One of the most obvious ways to match this jersey is by the uneven placement of the T's. This is from Trottier's 2-goal/1-assist game vs the Flyers on Nov 16th.
A small mark on the left arm can be seen, though it's difficult to say this is a conclusive match.
A very small mark on the back shows up in a couple of screen grabs. (the image on the right is blurred from the VHS transfer)
Merely supporting evidence, the numbers are placed in the same location relative to the fight strap, which is different on every jersey and indicative of a match in this case.
Trottier’s Last goal
On December 14th, Trottier scored his 524th and final career goal, an empty netter to seal the game against Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angeles Kings. As the puck crosses the line, announcer Gary Thorne exclaims “and this game… is history!” Little did he know it would be history for an altogether different reason!
A 3 point night vs Philly
On November 16th, 1993 Trottier erupted for two goals and one assist in an 11-5 drubbing of the cross-state rivals. Budding super star Jaromir Jagr finished the game with a goal and five assists!
